Description |
ashtray, saddle & spur design, Medicine Hat Potteries, below the saddle horn written in gold oxide "HAT MOTEL/MEDICINE HAT.ALBERTA", the saddle is brown with the ties & tool work on the front, back, sides & skirts executed in gold oxide, tool work design is geometric & floral, spur & ash holder have a wash of light brown on the interior & around the sides, ca. 17.0 cm. max. l. x ca. 9.5 cm. max. h., stamp no. G.1 (brown oxide, 26 mm.), date not known but 1938-1955, fair to good condition but with a small chip from the horn of the saddle, several small chips from the spur, with several other small chips from the bottom edge of the ashtray & with the letter H of Hat Motel all but worn off. This is the first example that I have seen of the saddle ashtray with commercial advertising on it; others have been named to individuals or to the Lions Club. |
